School Board

The Diocesan School Board is a consultative board commissioned to advise the Bishop in all matters of Catholic schools through the Superintendent of Schools. Its role is to provide advice, guidance and leadership in executing the Mission of the Department of Catholic Schools.

  Linda Remington, President

Linda Remington has been a noted Bay Area speaker and instructor in the area of retail merchandising for over 20 years.  She began her career in the Macy’s California training program. Her placements included store management San Francisco, Sacramento and Fairfield and buying in the Men’s Division.   She has taught at FIDM and the Academy of Art University where she held the position of Merchandising Chair.  Ms. Remington also held the position of Director of Development and Marketing at an independent private school in Oakland.  She is currently the President of the School Board for the Diocese of Oakland and a Director of Crossroads Trading Company.  Her daughter, a Bishop O'Dowd graduate, is attending University of Arizona and her son is at Butte College.   She is a member of Corpus Christi Parish in Piedmont.

 
Kathy Hill, Vice President 

Kathy Hill is a marketing consultant specializing in strategic planning, new product development, and brand building/communication.  She is a member of Corpus Christi Parish and served on the School Board at Corpus Christi School before joining the Diocesan School Board.  As a Diocesan School Board member, Kathy focuses on providing support to Local School Boards and greatly enjoys working with Principals and volunteers.  Kathy is an alumna of Assumption School and Moreau High School.

 
  Jim Beck

Jim Beck has been associated with the School Board for seven years as a member of the Finance Committee, a Board member and chair of the Human Resources Committee.   Jim is VP Human Resources for AT&T Local Network Services.   His three children graduated from Corpus Christi School and Bishop O’Dowd High School.   Jim graduated from Jesuit High School (Sacramento) and University of San Francisco. He is a member of Corpus Christi Parish.   

 
 Laura Bennett

Laura Bennett works with California Alliance for Arts Education as a Partner Engagement Coordinator focusing on the development of local advocacy organizations for arts education. She has been a member of St. Theresa Parish for 23 years.  Both of her sons attended St. Theresa Elementary; one going on to De la Salle High School, the other to St. Mary’s College High School. Laura enjoys finding ways to get involved in community outreach activities, resulting in ongoing work with Oakland Elizabeth House, the Enrollment Task Force with the Diocesan School Department and St. Theresa Parish. Laura attended St. Charles Borromeo Elementary and Providence High School in Southern California, and received a BA and MBA from Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga.




 
 Suzanne Bradshaw

Suzanne Bradshaw has been a parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish for 35 years.  Herself a graduate of Holy Spirit School and Moreau Catholic High School, she has two children - Doug, a senior at Junipero Serra High School, and Catherine, a freshman at Notre Dame Belmont High School. A graduate of Santa Clara University with a Finance degree, Suzanne is a Senior Executive with Bank of America in San Francisco. Over the past 23 years at Bank of America, Suzanne has worked in a number of capacities specializing in process design, risk management, product management, operations management and international business. Suzanne has served in a number of ministries at Holy Spirit Parish including Holy Spirit School Board Chair, Pastoral Council Chair, School and Parish Finance Committees and Social Justice.


 
John Camozzi 

John J. Camozzi is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated business attorney who also holds an MBA in International Management (Banking).  He provides private general counsel and transaction services to a diverse group of privately held, technology-driven companies, with a special emphasis on introducing disruptive environmentally sustainable proprietary technologies into the recovery and recycling of shredded automobiles, consumer electronics and industrial landfills.  John's practice focuses on structuring, documenting and implementing domestic and international transactions involving business finance, intellectual property, capital equipment, strategic joint ventures and liquidity events.  John is an active member of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Walnut Creek, and is currently serving as a member of the Advisory Council and Finance Committee to the elementary school.  He is an alumni and former member of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s College High School, Berkeley, and is an alumni of Saint David Elementary School, Richmond.


 
Jeanette De La Garza Dold 

Jeannette DeLaGarza is a senior vice president and managing director of Wells Fargo Wholesale University.  A division within Wholesale Credit Administration, Wholesale University manages and delivers training resources that are primarily focused on developing the credit management skills of financial analysts, relationship managers and other credit practitioners. 

Jeannette holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from San Jose State University and master’s degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco. Jeannette is a graduate of the Wells Fargo Wholesale Banking Credit Management Training Program.

With a strong commitment to the community, Jeannette serves as finance chairperson of the School Board of the Catholic Schools Diocese of Oakland and as finance chairperson of the Athletic Booster Board of Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California.   She is the former President and finance chairperson of the Corpus Christi School Board in Piedmont, California.

 Bill Fanning

Bill Fanning is in his 5th year on the Diocesan School Board and is also a member of the Board Support Community. He lives in Oakland and is a parishioner at Corpus Christi. Bill has served on the School Boards of both Corpus Christi (president) and Bishop O’Dowd (vice-president). He does market research and also teaches in the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Bill hails originally from Chicago, where he attended Catholic elementary and high school.


 
 Michelle Hawkins

Michelle Hawkins is the Director of Annual Giving at Bishop O’Dowd High School.  Michelle has served on the Diocesan School Board for the past 3 years and is committed to Catholic Education.  She has three children, two who are currently enrolled in Catholic schools in the Diocese and one who is a graduate of Corpus Christi School and Bishop O’Dowd High School. Michelle served on the Corpus Christi School Board for three years as chair of the Development Committee.  On the Diocesan School Board, Michelle is a member of the Board Support Committee and the Nominating Committee.

Joe Lewis 

Joe Lewis is a life-long Bay Area resident who attended St. Augustine Elementary School and St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland. He holds a BA Degree from St. Mary’s College in Management and Masters Degree from University of San Francisco in International Multi-Cultural Education.

 Joe retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Master Sergeant having completed close to 23 years of US military service. He spent 25 years with Pacific Bell in Computer Operations and Human Resources.  His current position is Director, Retirement Administration, Office of the President, University of California - responsible for pension administration, retiree health insurance administration and for oversight of customer service for all UC employees and retirees

Joe and his wife of 41 years live in Hercules where he is actively involved in St. John the Baptist Parish in El Cerrito.He serves as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Usher. He currently is in his second tenure on the Pastoral Council. Joe's three sons all graduated from Catholic High Schools within the Oakland Diocese.  He now has a grandson attending elementary school in the 6th grade.

A long-time member of the Board, Joe currently serves on the Diocesan School Board as the Chair of the Public Policy Committee. As part of his responsibilities, he is a member of the Parent Advisory Committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. In his continuing support of inner-city education, Joe is a member of the Advisory Committee for Catholic Schools Consortium. He is a 2008 Seton Award winner for his dedication to Catholic Education in the Diocese.

 


 
 Katie Murphy

Katie Murphy has been principal of Corpus Christi School for 21 years. She attended Moreland Notre Dame Elementary School in Watsonville, California where she grew up. She graduated from Dominican College in 1971 with a BA in History and continued for a fifth year to attain her California Standard Teaching Credential in 1972. She was awarded the California Administrative Credential at San Jose State University California in 1981.

 

Katie’s first year of teaching was at St. Cornelius in Richmond, teaching third grade. She was eight years a teacher and eight years the principal at Holy Cross Elementary School in Santa Cruz before moving to Oakland and Corpus Christi. Katie is currently on the USF ICEL Advisory Board, the St. Mary’s College High School Board of Trustees, the Personnel Board for the Diocese of Oakland and the elected representative for Principals on the Diocesan School Board. She is currently in her 38th year in Catholic Education, which she loves.

 

 


 
Fr. Nicholas Reina, sdb 

Fr. Nicholas Reina was born in New York City, moved to LA, attending Catholic grammar school and high school in LA. He was ordained in 1978.  His primary ministry has been in high school education including positions as Campus Minister and President at Don Bosco Technical High School in Los Angeles, He is currently serves as President at Salesian High in Richmond.


 
 Fr. Larry Young

Fr. Larry Young is the Pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Rodeo-Hercules.  Fr. Larry attended Catholic Schools in Long Beach, CA.  He graduated from St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, the same school that Cardinal Levada and Archbishop George H. Niederauer of San Francisco and Bishop Gerald Wilkerson attended.  Father has taught high school, served as Dean of Students and was the second principal of Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward.  Fr. Larry still enjoys teaching the Confirmation class to the high school students of the Parish and teaching lessons in St. Patrick School.  He has served on the Diocesan School Board for 8 years.

 


 
 Debbie Dinneen

Debbie Dinneen is Co-Director of Advancement at the School of the Madeleine where her daughter attends 8th grade, and she also has a son attending St. Mary’s College High School. She is a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and has served on The School of the Madeleine’s Parents’ Association Board, School Board, and Marketing and Advancement Committees for the past 8 years. She has also volunteered at FACE for the past 4-years helping with marketing and public relations. She is a recent member of the Board Support Committee. Prior to her volunteer work, she was a Law Librarian for 22-years at a San Francisco law firm. She attended a Catholic elementary and high school in San Francisco, and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and received a MLIS from San Jose State University.
