The Vice Principal For Faculty Development (VPFD) develops and implements a comprehensive and differentiated program for shaping the craft of teaching at De La Salle High School. The VPFD works under the direction of the Principal and collaborates with him and the Vice Principal for Curriculum Development and Academic Services, as well as Academic Department Chairs, to create and sustain an environment in which the ministry of teaching is characterized by professionalism, collegiality, the pursuit of excellence and effectiveness, and a deep commitment to Lasallian spirituality and pedagogy.



The VPFD takes the lead in the development of a varied program for faculty development that includes the following elements:


1) a focused and intensive protocol for clinical supervision of faculty cohorts; 

2) regular evaluation programs for all faculty; 

3) an induction and mentoring program for first and second year teachers; 

4) a differentiated program for faculty that emphasizes a wide range of professional development projects, independent and peer group learning experiences, and ongoing

research; 

5) activities to deepen faculty understanding of and engagement with the Lasallian heritage and its particular pedagogical principles and practices.


Candidates for this position should hold an advanced degree in educational administration with a focus on academic leadership and have appropriate experience in the area of directing faculty professional development.

The first secondary school in Oakland, Holy Names is a private Catholic college preparatory school that was established on the shores of Lake Merritt in 1868 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.  


The chief executive officer of the school, reporting to the Board of Directors, carries out the Educational Mission, Philosophy, and Charism or the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and policies determined in conjunction with the Board. The Department of Catholic Schools, diocese of Oakland is seeking a full-time Executive Director of Development and Advancement for Urban Catholic Schools.


In partnership with the Superintendent of Schools, urban principals and pastors, and the Department of Catholic Schools, the Executive Director of Development and Advancement for Urban Catholic Schools serves in a leadership capacity in two areas:

  • Development, implementation and evaluation of a diversified fund development plan that increases revenue for our urban Catholic schools
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of a diversified advancement plan, including formation and establishment of an Urban Catholic Schools Board that actively participates in revenue generation


This newly created full-time position (which may require some evening and weekends) is accountable to the Superintendent of Schools through annual evidence of results in fund development and advancement for the benefit of the community of urban Catholic schools and in support of individual schools.
